Punjab to have its own goods trains to improve industrial transportation: CM

Chandigarh : Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann said at an ASSOCHAM meeting that the Punjab Government is in talks with major airlines to direct international flights from  Amritsar,   and  Chandigarh  to significant destinations like  Vancouver . ''We are talking with Air India, Vistara, British Airways, and Air Canada that we need direct flights from Amritsar and Chandigarh to London, Toronto, Silicon Valley, and Chicago. We have an upgraded immigration and customs system. We would have three terminals (going up from one at present)," Mann said. Mann also shared his plan to have for  Punjab  at least three captive goods trains at an approximate investment of Rs 1000 crore and provide a connectivity boon to the manufacturer exporters and traders in the state.  Punjab  would be the first state in the country to have its own goods trains. Concessional financing schemes of the Railways would be utilized for the project.  AS Mittal, Vi...

Har Ghar Tiranga - for the well-being of the nation

Chandigarh : The ‘Har Ghar Trianga’ campaign of the State Bank of India (SBI) started here today with a Cyclothon and Inter School Drawing Competition with the message to host the National Flag at every house. The winners of the drawing competition were - Abhilasha (junior group), and Aaina (senior group), both from Ankur Public School .  The Inaugural lamp lighting was done by Vinod Jaiswal, Chief General Manager (CGM), State Bank of India , Chandigarh Circle . More than 200 students from different schools in Chandigarh participated in the event. The winners were given trophies and participation certificates by Ms Priti Jaiswal, President, SBI Ladies Club, Chandigarh . Omar Rabie    Chandigarh : Bioclimatic architecture – a way of designing buildings based on local climate, and ensuring thermal comfort using environmental resources is fast gaining ground in  India . Bioclimatic architecture is at the core of green building development. The design style tries to integrate well into natural surroundings.  Omar K Rabie, an Egyptian architect says, "If one’s house is well oriented with the sun and the wind, encouraging favoured airflow and reducing unfavoured solar radiation, then he can open a window towards a well-shaded planted transitional space instead of using the AC when it gets hot.
